Tanzania is two trips in one. Mainland Tanzania holds the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater — two of Africa's most iconic safari destinations, and the only places to witness the Great Migration. Off the coast, Zanzibar offers Indian Ocean beaches with a Swahili-Arab cultural overlay you won't find anywhere else: Stone Town's narrow alleys, spice plantations, dhows on the horizon, and powder-white sand at Nungwi, Kendwa and Paje.

The classic Tanzania holiday is "safari + beach" — 4-5 nights in the Serengeti or Ngorongoro followed by 5-7 nights in Zanzibar.

Best Time to Visit

June to October for safari (dry season, peak wildlife viewing). Zanzibar: June to September and December to February.
